Reasons You Need a Roofing Contractor in Texas

With varied weather in Texas, your roof sustains a lot of stress over its lifetime. Texas homeowners may find their roofs need repair or replacement for many reasons, most weather-related.

Hail Damage

Texas experiences hail storms. Hail can cause damage to your shingles in the form of granule loss or dents. These can compromise the integrity of your roof.

Wind

Gusts of wind may also rip off sections of shingles. Repair is an ideal option for a roof with only a few torn shingles, a result of wind damage. But if it’s a pervasive problem, a more expansive roof repair or replacement may be necessary.

Water Leaks

Isolated leaks in one spot of your roof can be quickly addressed with a patch repair. But leaks all over your roof can be caused by water getting trapped beneath your shingles, resulting in rotting wood and mold growth. Act quickly to address a leaky roof by calling Vision Construction at 888-360-8474.

TWIA Windstorm Claim – Frequently Asked Questions (South Texas Coastal Area)

What is TWIA and why do we use it here on the coast?

TWIA (Texas Windstorm Insurance Association) provides windstorm and hail insurance for homes and businesses along the Texas coast—including Portland, Ingleside, Rockport, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Gregory, and Taft. Many private carriers don’t offer wind and hail coverage in our coastal zone, so TWIA is the main provider for most homeowners in this area.

What should I do right after a coastal windstorm or hail event?

After a storm hits the Coastal Bend, start with safety first. Then:

  1. Take photos and videos of any visible roof, siding, or window damage.

  2. Cover exposed areas to prevent further water intrusion.

  3. File your TWIA claim promptly—storms here can overload adjusters, and the sooner you file, the sooner they can inspect.

How long does it take for a TWIA adjuster to come out in our area?

After a major storm in the Coastal Bend, TWIA usually assigns an adjuster within a few days. However, big events affecting places like Portland and Rockport may cause delays. Once assigned, the adjuster will schedule an on-site inspection of your home.

What happens during a TWIA inspection?

Your adjuster will inspect your roof, exterior, and any reported damage. They will take photos, measure slopes, check for hail impacts, lifted shingles, bent metal, damaged windows, and any structural issues. TWIA will then write an estimate—called a “scope of loss”—showing what they believe should be repaired or replaced.

What if TWIA’s estimate seems too low?

This is common in coastal communities where materials like aluminum roofing, standing seam, or wind-rated components have higher costs. If the estimate seems inaccurate or below local pricing, you can:

  • Request a reinspection

  • Provide additional photos or contractor reports

  • Get help from a contractor experienced with TWIA guidelines

  • Use TWIA’s mediation or appraisal processes if needed

Does TWIA cover full roof replacement in our region?

Yes. If the inspection determines your roof has wind or hail damage beyond repair, TWIA can cover a full replacement using materials comparable to what you currently have. Proper documentation is very important for metal roofs, standing seam, coastal-grade shingles, or aluminum systems often used in this region.

What documents should I provide for a TWIA claim?

Helpful items include:

  • Photos of storm damage

  • Your policy number

  • A list of affected areas

  • Emergency repair receipts (tarps, board-ups, etc.)

  • Contractor estimates or inspection reports
These items can help support a more accurate scope from TWIA.

Can I hire my own contractor in the Coastal Bend?

Yes. TWIA does not require preferred vendors. You can choose any licensed contractor in South Texas. It’s recommended to work with a company familiar with TWIA requirements, windstorm codes, coastal metal roofing, and local pricing.

How does TWIA depreciation work?

TWIA generally pays:

  • ACV (Actual Cash Value) upfront

  • RCV (Recoverable Depreciation) after repairs are completed and proof is submitted

This means most claims are paid in two or more installments.

How can a contractor help me with my TWIA claim?

A local contractor familiar with South Texas coastal wind events can:

  • Provide a detailed inspection and photo report

  • Help identify all storm-related damage

  • Compare TWIA’s scope to real labor and material prices in the Coastal Bend

  • Assist with supplements for missing items

  • Ensure repairs meet coastal windstorm certification requirements.

If you were impacted by a recent wind or hail event in Portland, Ingleside, Rockport, Aransas Pass, Corpus Christi, or nearby communities, we’re here to guide you through the TWIA claim process from start to finish.
