Wind

Hurricane-force winds are those that are 74 miles per hour or greater. Gale-force winds are between 39 and 54 miles per hour or greater. High winds tear off shingles, leaving the underlayment or roof deck exposed to the elements. Sudden, sharp gusts of wind from minor storms can lift and curl shingles. In “Tornado Alley,” tornadoes are the main cause of wind damage.
